To speed up the recruitment process for both cadre and non-cadre positions, the interim government has made a final decision to divide the Public Service Commission (PSC) into two separate bodies.

The decision was finalized at a meeting held at the Cabinet Division on Sunday (April 27) .

Confirming the matter, Rahima Akter, Joint Secretary of the Recruitment, Promotion, and Deputation Wing of the Ministry of Public Administration, said, “It has been decided to divide the PSC into two parts. This means there will be two separate commissions with two chairpersons. The recruitment processes for cadre and non-cadre positions will be handled separately.”

When asked when this might be implemented, she said, “The meeting just ended. More details will be available once the official resolution is released.”

A cabinet official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, “Recruitment for non-cadre posts at the PSC has been delayed for a long time. To speed up the process, the decision to create a separate PSC has been finalized.”

It is known that during the tenure of former PSC Chairman Sohorab Hossain, a proposal was made to form a separate PSC for non-cadre recruitment. Later, the previous government formed an evaluation committee. Although the committee recommended forming a separate PSC, the proposal was never implemented.

According to the Constitution, the Public Service Commission is responsible for recruiting employees at all levels of government. Article 140(1)(a) states that the PSC is tasked with “conducting examinations and assessments to select qualified candidates for public service.” Article 137 allows for the formation of more than one PSC for this purpose.
