Public participation essential to control dengue: PM

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called on people across the country to work together to prevent dengue and keep their communities clean, stressing that sustained public participation is essential to controlling the disease.

He made the call on Saturday (September 12) while inaugurating a nationwide dengue prevention and cleanliness campaign at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

Tarique Rahman said the government would make its strongest effort over the next three months to contain dengue, acknowledging that a complete solution may not be possible but insisting that effective measures can bring the situation under control.

“Let us keep ourselves healthy and our society healthy,” he said, urging citizens to devote at least one hour each week to cleanliness. He also asked people to stop dumping waste indiscriminately and stressed that every citizen has a role in building a cleaner country.

The prime minister said collective action could overcome obstacles to national change, recalling the events of August 5, 2024, as evidence that change was possible. “Now, let us change the state,” he said.

Before the inauguration, Tarique Rahman visited several campaign stalls and greeted members of the public. The three-month campaign will run from September 12 to December 12.
