Public suffering in the name of protests will not be tolerated: RAB Chief
Rapid Action Battalion Director General AKM Shahidur Rahman has warned that any activities causing public suffering in the name of protests or demands will not be tolerated.
He said no programme would be allowed if it holds people hostage or subjects them to harassment.
The remarks came during a briefing on Friday morning, February 20, at the Central Shaheed Minar premises on overall law and order ahead of International Mother Language Day and RAB’s nationwide special security measures.
The RAB chief said the country’s law and order situation had been somewhat fragile over the past one and a half years, but the force had been working consistently to bring it under control.
“We assured the nation that we would be able to improve the law and order situation and ensure an environment for a fair election. Together, we have been able to gift the nation a credible election,” he said.
He added that RAB remains fully alert to prevent any disruption to law and order and that effective measures to control crime will continue.
AKM Shahidur Rahman said the force wants citizens to move freely and maintain normal lives without disruption. Authorities remain in a strict position to ensure that no obstacle affects people’s daily activities.
Seeking cooperation from journalists, he said support from the media and the public would play an important role in further improving the law and order situation.
