Pump owners demand 8-point measures to ensure safety, steady fuel supply
The Bangladesh Petroleum Dealers, Distributors, Agents, and Petrol Pump Owners Association has called for eight key measures to ensure adequate security at filling stations and maintain steady fuel supply across the country.
At a press conference held at the association’s headquarters in the capital's Mogbazar on Tuesday (March 31), convener Syed Sajjadul Karim Kabul highlighted recent disruptions caused by sudden spikes in fuel demand, which have led to disorder and hampered supply.
The association’s primary demand is ensuring sufficient security at petrol stations and supplying fuel according to real-time demand.
Other key demands include: Raising public awareness and encouraging patience among customers; Discouraging crowding at empty tanks, which escalates chaos; Fixing petrol sales hours from 7 am to 8:00pm; Strengthening security at all upazila- and district-level petrol stations; Delivering fuel from depots to tankers according to each chamber’s capacity (e.g., 4,500 liters) to prevent logistical losses; Tightening government monitoring of fuel supply and marketing operations; Preventing unwarranted attacks on petrol pumps or blaming owners unilaterally.
The association welcomed the government’s initiative to appoint tag officers and urged quick implementation of the proposals to restore order in the fuel sector and reduce public inconvenience.
