RAB disbanding or restructuring govt's decision: DG
The decision to disband or restructure the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) lies entirely with the government, and the force itself has no authority to decide on the matter, Director General Ahsan Habib Polash has said.
He made the remarks during a views-exchange meeting with journalists on various contemporary issues on Sunday, April 5.
Responding to a question, he said RAB will make its utmost efforts to provide any assistance requested in judicial processes. "We will cooperate based on the information available to us," he said.
The director general expressed hope that RAB would be developed as a professional, humane and technology-dependent force in the future. "RAB will be able to play a more responsible role in the future," he said.
Regarding international sanctions on RAB, Ahsan Habib Polash said analysis of past activities reveals some deviations and lapses in certain cases. However, if those weaknesses are corrected, the sanctions could be lifted.
"Our task will be to prove that if we can improve ourselves, the sanctions will no longer remain," he added.
