Rain forecast across country for next 5 days, heavy rainfall likely in some areas

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has said that rainfall may continue in various parts of the country over the next five days. During this period, most areas may experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers with gusty winds. Additionally, moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in some places.

The forecast was issued for the next 120 hours from 9am on Monday (July 20).

The Met Office said the axis of the monsoon trough extends through Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and northern Bangladesh to Assam. One of its extensions extends to the northwest Bay of Bengal. The monsoon is currently active over the northern part of the country, fairly active elsewhere, and moderate over the North Bay.

On Monday (July 20), rain or thundershowers with gusty winds may occur at most places over Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at many places over Khulna division. Moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur at some places. Day and night temperatures may drop slightly across the country.

On Tuesday (July 21), similar rainfall patterns are expected in most areas, with heavy rainfall likely at some places. Temperatures may remain nearly unchanged.

On Wednesday (July 22), rain or thundershowers are likely at most places over Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions and at many places over Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions. Moderately heavy to heavy rainfall may occur at some places. No significant change in temperature is expected.

On Thursday (July 23), rain may occur at most places over Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions and at many places over other divisions. Heavy rainfall is particularly likely in some areas of the southern region. Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged.

On Friday (July 24), rain or thundershowers are likely at most places over Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions and at many places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions. Heavy rainfall may occur at some places. Temperatures across the country are expected to remain nearly unchanged.

According to the Met Office, rainfall may continue in various parts of the country over the next few days due to the active monsoon. Authorities have advised those in areas prone to heavy rainfall to remain cautious, as there are risks of waterlogging and localised short-term flooding.
