Rain forecast for next 5 days, showers may intensify Saturday-Sunday
Rainfall is likely to continue across the country over the next five days, with precipitation expected to increase in various regions on Saturday and Sunday. Moderate to heavy downpours may occur in some places, accompanied by temporary gusty winds and thunderstorms.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department shared the forecast on Friday, August 28, covering the next 120 hours from 6pm.
According to the department, the axis of the monsoon trough extends from Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal and through the central part of Bangladesh to Assam. The monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate over the northern Bay of Bengal.
From Friday evening, light to moderate rain or thundershowers with gusty winds may occur in many parts of Rangpur, Mymensingh, Khulna, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, and in some parts of Rajshahi, Dhaka and Barishal divisions. Moderately heavy falls may occur at some places. Day temperatures may rise slightly while night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged.
Similar weather conditions are expected to continue on Saturday, August 29. Rain or thundershowers are likely in many parts of Rangpur, Mymensingh, Khulna, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, and in some parts of Rajshahi, Dhaka and Barishal divisions. Moderately heavy falls may occur at some places.
On Sunday, August 30, rain or thundershowers may occur in many parts of Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions, and in some parts of Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions. Moderately heavy to heavy rainfall is possible in some places. Both day and night temperatures may drop slightly across the country.
On Monday, August 31, rain or thundershowers are likely in many parts of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal and Sylhet divisions, and in some parts of Dhaka and Chattogram divisions. Moderately heavy to heavy rainfall may occur at some places. Temperatures may drop slightly.
On Tuesday, September 1, light to moderate rain or thundershowers with gusty winds may occur in many parts of Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, and in some parts of Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions. Moderately heavy to heavy rainfall is possible in some places.
The Met Office forecast indicates that rain activity is likely to persist over the extended five-day period.
