The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecast continued rain and thunderstorms across much of the country over the next five days, offering relief from the ongoing heatwave ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

The weather department further indicated that the rainy trend may continue even beyond the next five days, raising the possibility of a wet Eid holiday across large parts of the country.

According to the latest weather bulletin issued on Monday (May 25) by meteorologist Md. Tariful Newaz Kabir, several regions may experience gusty winds, lightning, and moderate to heavy rainfall, while temperatures are expected to gradually decline from Wednesday.

The forecast said Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions are likely to witness widespread rainfall and heavy downpours in some areas over the coming days. Scattered rain and thunderstorms are also expected in parts of Dhaka, Chattogram, Khulna and Barishal divisions.

The weather office said a mild heatwave currently sweeping over Dhaka, Tangail, Faridpur, Madaripur, Gopalganj, Rajshahi, Pabna, Sirajganj, Patuakhali and parts of Khulna division may continue temporarily before easing later in the week.

From Wednesday onward, daytime temperatures across the country could fall by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius due to increased rainfall activity, while nighttime temperatures may also decrease slightly.

Meteorologists warned that heavy rainfall could trigger temporary waterlogging in some low-lying urban areas and advised people to remain cautious during thunderstorms and gusty winds, especially during Eid travel.

The weather department further indicated that the rainy trend may continue even beyond the next five days, raising the possibility of a wet Eid holiday across large parts of the country.
