The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast rain and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds in different parts of the country over the next five days due to the extension of a low-pressure system over West Bengal and adjoining areas.

In its 120-hour outlook issued at 6:00pm Friday (March 13), the Met Office said the seasonal low remains over the southern Bay of Bengal. Under its influence, scattered rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty winds are expected in parts of Rangpur Division, Dhaka Division, Mymensingh Division and Sylhet Division, and at isolated places in Rajshahi Division, Khulna Division, Barishal Division and Chattogram Division on the first day, with a slight rise in day and night temperatures.

Similar weather is expected on Saturday, though daytime temperatures may fall slightly while night temperatures could rise marginally. On Sunday, thunderstorms are likely in parts of Rajshahi Division, Dhaka Division, Khulna Division, Mymensingh Division and Sylhet Division, with isolated showers elsewhere, and a slight drop in temperatures.

On Monday and Tuesday, rain or thundershowers with lightning and gusty winds may occur at one or two places across all divisions. Temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged, though a slight increase may occur by the fifth day.

As of 6:00pm Friday, relative humidity in Dhaka stood at 57 per cent, with winds blowing from the west or southwest at 8–12 km/h, occasionally gusting up to 30–40 km/h. The sun will set in Dhaka at 6:07pm and rise at 6:09am on Saturday.
