Rain, thunderstorms likely in 12 regions by this noon
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast rain or thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds of up to 60 kilometres per hour in 12 regions across the country, prompting a warning signal for river ports in the affected areas.
The warning is in effect from 4:30am to 1pm on Friday (September 4), according to the department’s forecast for the country’s inland river ports.
The affected regions are Rajshahi, Rangpur, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar.
The areas may experience temporary gusts from the south or southeast at speeds of 45 to 60 kilometres per hour, along with rain or thunderstorms, the forecast said.
The BMD has instructed the relevant river ports to hoist cautionary Signal No. 1 due to the potential for sudden gusts and rough conditions during rainfall.
Boat operators and other river-route users in the affected areas have been advised to exercise caution while travelling during the forecast period.
