Rain is unlikely in Dhaka on Wednesday (August 12), with partly cloudy skies expected to give way to mostly dry conditions, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

The BMD said, despite the low chance of rain, very high humidity is likely to make the heat feel more uncomfortable than the actual temperature suggests.

In its six-hour forecast issued at 7:00am for Dhaka and adjoining areas, the department said the capital may experience partly cloudy skies, with southerly or southeasterly winds blowing at 8–12 kilometres per hour. No significant change in the day’s overall temperature is expected.

Dhaka recorded a minimum temperature of 26.8°C in the early morning, while the temperature stood at 27°C at 6am, when relative humidity reached 96 percent. The capital recorded a maximum temperature of 35.5°C on Tuesday, along with 5mm of rainfall in the previous 24 hours.

Elsewhere, weather conditions are expected to be more unsettled. Many areas of Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, along with isolated areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi and Dhaka divisions, may experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers with gusty winds by evening. Some areas may also receive moderately heavy rainfall.

The department said temperatures across the country may rise slightly during both day and night.

No warning signal has been issued for the country’s inland river ports until 1pm.

Sunset in Dhaka is expected at 6:34pm, with sunrise at 5:33am on Thursday.
