Rainfall may increase over next 5 days, heavy showers likely

A low-pressure area may develop over the northwestern Bay of Bengal and its adjoining areas within the next 24 hours. As a result, rainfall and thundershower activity may increase across various parts of the country. According to the Met Office forecast, moderate to heavy rainfall may occur at some places over the next few days.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department provided this information in its 120-hour forecast valid from 9am on Tuesday. The Met Office said the monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate over the North Bay.

The Met Office said the axis of the monsoon trough extends through Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal and southern Bangladesh to Assam.

On Tuesday, light to moderate rain or thundershowers with gusty winds may occur at many places in Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, and at one or two places in Rangpur, Rajshahi and Dhaka divisions. Moderately heavy rainfall may occur at some places.

On Wednesday, light to moderate rain or thundershowers with gusty winds may occur at many places in Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, and at some places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions. Moderate to heavy rainfall may occur at some places.

On Thursday, light to moderate rain or thundershowers with gusty winds may occur at many places in Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, and at some places in Rangpur, Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions. Moderate to heavy rainfall is likely at some places.

On Friday, light to moderate rain or thundershowers with gusty winds may occur at many places in Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, and at some places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions. Moderate to heavy rainfall may occur at some places. Day temperatures may remain nearly unchanged, while night temperatures may drop slightly.

On Saturday, light to moderate rain or thundershowers with gusty winds may occur at many places in Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, and at some places in Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions. Moderate to heavy rainfall is likely at some places. Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged.

The Met Office's extended five-day forecast said rainfall and thundershower activity may increase during this period, indicating a likely rise in rainfall across various regions in the coming days.
