Rashed Khan appointed PM's political assistant with secretary rank
BNP leader Rashed Khan has been appointed as political assistant to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman with the rank of secretary .
The Ministry of Public Administration issued a gazette notification on Saturday confirming the appointment . Khan himself confirmed the matter through a post on his verified Facebook account on Sunday.
In his Facebook post, Rashed Khan wrote, "Alhamdulillah, the Honourable Prime Minister has appointed me as his political assistant with the rank of secretary."
Expressing gratitude to the Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman for the appointment, he said, "Infinite gratitude and thanks to the embodiment of the people's trust and confidence, Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Prime Minister Tarique Rahman Sir."
He added, "I seek everyone's prayers and love so that I can carry out my duties with trust and confidence. I look forward to everyone's cooperation in this journey of a new chapter of my life."
According to the gazette notification, the appointment is contractual and will take effect from the date he joins, subject to his relinquishing any professional, business or employment ties with any government, semi-government, private institution or other entity. He will serve for the duration of the prime minister's term or until the prime minister is satisfied with his service, whichever comes first .
Rashed Khan first came to national prominence as joint convener of the Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad, the organisation at the forefront of the 2018 quota reform movement. He later played a key role in the formation of the Gono Odhikar Parishad and served as its general secretary. He was expelled from the party in late December 2025 and formally joined the BNP on 27 December last year .
