Rashed Prodhan’s aide Jony Nandi taken into police custody
Police in Dhaka have taken Jonny Nandi, personal secretary to the Jatiya Ganotantrik Party (JAGPA) Spokesperson Rashed Prodhan, into custody following tensions during a protest programme in Mohammadpur.
The development comes amid heightened political reactions to recent remarks by Rashed Prodhan targeting BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, which sparked protests outside his residence.
According to police, the incident occurred on Friday (April 17) when demonstrators gathered in front of Prodhan’s house. During the programme, an altercation broke out, leading to a tense situation.
Tejgaon Division ADC Jewel Rana said Jony Nandi appeared at the scene while protesters were speaking to journalists and allegedly contributed to escalating tensions. Police later removed him from the spot and took him into custody.
He added that the situation is now under control and clarified that Nandi has not been formally arrested.
Earlier, protests erupted following Prodhan’s controversial remarks, with demonstrators staging a position programme outside his residence.
