Reading of Sheikh Hasina’s verdict begins

The International Crimes Tribunal has begun reading the verdict against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and one other accused in the case over crimes against humanity for the massacres committed in July–August twenty-four.

On Monday November 17, after 12:30pm, the verdict reading began in Tribunal-1, led by Chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumder and the three-member judicial panel. The other members of the tribunal are Justice Md Shafiul Alam Mahmood and Justice Md Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.

In this case, Sheikh Hasina and Kamal are absconding. However, former IGP Mamun has been in prison for almost a year since his arrest. Although he became a state witness and testified in the tribunal against the former prime minister and former home minister. As a result, the prosecution left the decision on the former IGP’s punishment to the tribunal. At the same time, the maximum sentence was sought for Sheikh Hasina and Kamal.

At 9:10am, under tight security, police brought Mamun to the tribunal from prison in a prison van. For the last time, he entered the tribunal lockup with his head slightly lowered.
