Rear Admiral Khondkar Misbah-ul-Azim appointed Navy chief

Rear Admiral Khondkar Misbah-ul-Azim has been appointed as the Chief of the Navy.

This was announced in a message sent by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Thursday (July 16).

It stated that that he will be promoted to the rank of Vice Admiral on July 23, 2026 and will take over as the Chief of the Navy.

Khondkar Misbah-ul-Azim obtained a Master of Science (MSc) in Defense Studies from the National University. He also obtained two more Master's degrees in Strategic Studies from the University of Madras, India, and the National Defense University of China.

He graduated with first class in all three Master's degrees. In addition to his MPhil degree, he also completed a PhD in Contemporary Maritime Governance from the Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP). Several articles based on his research have been published in various journals at home and abroad.

In addition to military duties, he has also served in the diplomatic arena. Earlier, he served as the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Muscat, the capital of Oman. He can speak Malay fluently in addition to Bengali and English. He also has basic knowledge of French.


Earlier in the day, outgoing Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Nazmul Hassan paid a farewell courtesy call on Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman at the Army Headquarters in Dhaka.
