Local Government Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that rebuilding the country from what he described as a “ruined state” is now the main political challenge for his party.

He made the remarks at a meeting with district-level leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Saturday morning (May 10), along with representatives of its associate bodies including Jubo Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal and Chhatra Dal, held at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh in the capital.

Fakhrul said party activists had “completed a major struggle” to protect the country, its people and democratic rights. He credited their efforts for what he described as political progress under the leadership of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman.

He said the party now faces the “greater challenge” of rebuilding institutions, strengthening governance and reorganising both the party and the state structure. “Our main objective is to overcome this challenge,” he said.

Calling on party workers to remain united, he urged them to strengthen organisational capacity down to the grassroots level and ensure coordination across all tiers of the party structure.

The meeting was chaired by BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed. Several senior leaders, including members of the party’s standing committee, were also present.
