Record number of dengue patients admitted to hospital in one day, 2 deaths
The Directorate General of Health Services has reported that the number of dengue patients admitted to hospital has crossed all past records and reached a new highest level. In the last 24 hours 996 people have been admitted to various hospitals across the country after being infected with dengue. In the same period two more people have died from this mosquito-borne disease. This is the highest in terms of patients admitted to hospital in one day this year.
This information was given in the report published by the Directorate General of Health Services on Saturday (August 29). Earlier the directorate had informed about 994 dengue patients being admitted to hospital in 24 hours on August 24. Crossing that number within just five days a new record has been created.
According to the calculation of the Directorate General of Health Services, adding the new patients the number of dengue-infected people in the country this year has increased to 33,586. Of these a total of two people, one each in Barishal and Khulna divisions, have died in the last one day. Both the deceased are male.
From the beginning of this year till now 90 people have died across the country after being infected with dengue. In terms of deaths the highest loss of lives has occurred in Dhaka South City Corporation area. So far 31 dengue patients have died in this region.
Meanwhile the number of people being admitted to hospital after being infected with dengue is also increasing every day. Till 8am on Saturday 2,101 dengue patients are undergoing treatment in various government and private hospitals of the country.
The upward trend of dengue infection has become clear in the statistics of the Directorate General of Health Services. Especially as the number of new patients being admitted to hospital continues to increase concern has been created over the situation. The concerned are giving importance to destroying the breeding grounds of mosquitoes for dengue control as well as taking the advice of a doctor quickly if fever and dengue symptoms appear.
