Reforms must continue like ‘blood circulation’ to keep economy active: Debapriya
Eminent economist Debapriya Bhattacharya has said that reforms must continue to sustain economic momentum, likening the process to blood circulation in the human body.
Speaking at an event on “Bangladesh Reform Tracker and Media Relevance” at the Economic Reporters Forum auditorium in Paltan on Thursday (April 9), he said reforms are not a one-off process but an ongoing necessity for sustained economic progress.
The distinguished fellow of Centre for Policy Dialogue noted that just as uninterrupted blood flow is vital for the human body, continuous reforms are crucial for economic growth and transition. “Reforms should never be seen as complete or final,” he added.
He cautioned against the misconception that reform efforts end with a change in government, stressing instead that the real challenge lies in carrying them forward into the future.
Bhattacharya also said the importance of reforms has become more pronounced in the current context, not only for economic stability but also for broader structural development, urging policymakers to maintain momentum in reform initiatives.
