Renaming of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University demanded

Teachers, doctors, officials, nurses and employees of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) have demanded to change the name of the university.

They raised the demand from a protest rally organised on the BSMMU premises on Wednesday (December 4).

Speakers at the rally said no institution should bear the name of any member of the family of dictator Sheikh Hasina. The name of BSMMU must be changed immediately. At the same time, the names of various halls must be renamed after the martyrs of July-August uprising.

BSMMU Anti-Discrimination Teachers-Doctors, Officers-Nurses and Employees Unity Council President and BSMMU Additional Registrar-1 Dr Md Delwar Hossain Tito said, "We will all collectively stand firm against Indian aggression. This university cannot be named after Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. It must be changed immediately."

He said, "We demand that all the BSMMU halls have to be renamed after the martyrs killed in the July Movement. Our movement will continue.”
