Reserved women MPs pay tribute at Zia, Khaleda Zia’s tombs
The members of parliament elected on reserved women's seats paid tribute at the tombs of former President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.
They went to Zia Udyan in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital and laid flowers at the tombs of the two leaders and participated in prayers on Monday afternoon (May 4).
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was present at the time. He prayed for the forgiveness of the souls of the deceased along with the newly elected women MPs at the tomb premises.
He said that those who have been elected as MPs will play an important role in building the country - that is the expectation.
Earlier, 49 members of the reserved women's seats took oath in the oath-taking room of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Sunday (May 4) night. The Speaker administered the oath to them.
This tribute is being seen as the formal beginning of the new members of parliament's political responsibilities as a party.
