Resignation of Deputy Attorney General Belayet Hossain

Deputy Attorney General Belayet Hossain has resigned from the post of the law officer of the state. He submitted the resignation letter to the Law and Justice Division by citing personal reasons on Monday (September 21).

Earlier Deputy Attorney General Sadia Afrin Shapla resigned on September 9. Two days before that, five high-ranking law officers resigned together on September 7. They are Additional Attorney General Muhammad Abdul Jabbar Bhuiyan, Deputy Attorney Generals Sultana Akter Ruby and Mamun Chowdhury and Assistant Attorney Generals Rohani Siddika and Projjal Chakma.

Besides, Assistant Attorney General Md Nurul Karim recently stepped aside by submitting the resignation letter to the Law Minister after the allegation of political association arose.

Earlier in June a total of 18 officers including seven Jamaat-supported Deputy Attorney Generals and 11 Assistant Attorney Generals had submitted resignation letters together in protest against the cancellation of multiple decisions and ordinances of the government.

At that time the resigning Deputy Attorney General Tariqul Islam had informed the media that they had taken the decision of resigning collectively in protest against the failure of the government in implementing the July Charter and the cancellation of the Supreme Court Secretariat Appointment Ordinance and the Supreme Court Judge Appointment Ordinance.
