River Ports in seven regions asked to hoist Cautionary Signal No. 1

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has advised inland river ports in seven regions to hoist Local Cautionary Signal No. 1, warning of temporary squally weather accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms.

According to a weather bulletin issued on Saturday (August 1), the warning will remain in effect from 5:00am to 1:00pm.

The BMD said Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Chattogram, Cox's Bazar and Sylhet are likely to experience south or south-easterly winds blowing at 45–60 km/h, accompanied by rain or thundershowers.

In view of the forecast, inland river ports in the affected regions have been instructed to display Local Cautionary Signal No. 1.

The weather warning was issued by meteorologist Md Toriqul Newaz Kabir on behalf of the Deputy Director of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

Authorities have urged operators of inland water vessels, fishermen and passengers to exercise caution and closely follow weather advisories while navigating river routes during the warning period.
