Rizwana urges students to become responsible citizens, future leaders
Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Ministry of Water Resources, has urged students to become responsible citizens and future leaders. "Together, we can build a Bangladesh free from exploitation and injustice. A country where the rule of law and justice are established and which will be an example for others to follow," she said.
She made these remarks in her speech as the Convocation President at the convocation of the International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) on Monday at BICC in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital.
She made two important requests to the students. First, unnecessary honking should be stopped. This will make the society more peaceful and eco-friendly. Second, single-use plastic should be avoided. She said, plastic pollution is a major threat to our environment. If this can be reduced, it will be possible to ensure a healthy world for future generations.
The adviser said, "The dream of a new Bangladesh has been possible because of your courage and sacrifice. You have fought against injustice and discrimination." He reminded the students that building a good career is not the end goal. Working for the welfare of the society is the real success.
Highlighting the environmental challenges of the current development model, he said, "We must ensure that development does not put pressure on nature. Development is possible without harming nature. For this, we need to change our concept of development." He called on IUBAT to play a leading role in promoting an environmentally friendly development model.
IUBAT Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Abdur Rab, convocation speaker Professor Dr. Tamsin Bradley from the University of Portsmouth, UK, IUBAT Treasurer Professor Selina Nargis and award-winning student Riana Azad also spoke at the convocation ceremony.
Later, the adviser awarded the convocation degrees and presented the Founder Mian Gold Medal, Alimullah Mian Award and Crest to the winners.
