Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam announced plans to revamp Bangladesh’s road management system ahead of the next festival. Speaking at the inauguration of a tree-planting programme in the capital's Purbachal on Wednesday morning (April 1), the minister noted that Eid al-Adha journeys are more challenging than those during Eid al-Fitr. He also said authorities are assessing the feasibility of constructing a second Jamuna Bridge to ease travel to northern regions. As part of the government’s five-year plan to plant 25 crore trees, over 3.5 million saplings will be planted under the initiative. Rabiul Alam emphasised that the programme is a priority project aimed at making Bangladesh more livable.

এবারের ঈদযাত্রার অভিজ্ঞতা থেকে শিক্ষা নিয়ে আগামী ঈদে সড়ক ব্যবস্থাপনা ঢেলে সাজানোর কথা জানিয়েছেন সড়ক পরিবহন ও সেতুমন্ত্রী শেখ রবিউল আলম। বুধবার (১ এপ্রিল) সকালে রাজধানীর পূর্বাচলে বৃক্ষরোপণ কর্মসূচির উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠান শেষে সাংবাদিকদের তিনি এ কথা বলেন। মন্ত্রী জানান, ঈদুল ফিতরের তুলনায় ঈদুল আজহার যাত্রা অধিক চ্যালেঞ্জিং। পাশাপাশি উত্তরবঙ্গের যোগাযোগ নির্বিঘ্ন করতে দ্বিতীয় যমুনা সেতু নির্মাণের সম্ভাবনাও যাচাই করা হচ্ছে বলে তিনি জানান। সরকারের পাঁচ বছরে ২৫ কোটি বৃক্ষরোপণ কর্মসূচির উদ্বোধন উপলক্ষে সেতুমন্ত্রী জানান, এই কর্মসূচির আওতায় তার মন্ত্রণালয় থেকে ৩৫ লাখেরও বেশি গাছ লাগানো হবে। তিনি বলেন, বাংলাদেশকে বাসযোগ্য করে তুলতে এই বৃক্ষরোপণ কর্মসূচি বাস্তবায়ন করা জরুরি, কারণ এটি সরকারের অগ্রাধিকার প্রকল্পগুলোর একটি।
