Sacrificial animals sheltered under metro station due to rain: State minister
The area under the Diabari metro rail station was not leased out for a sacrificial animal market. Some animal owners took shelter there for two days due to heavy rain, Local Government State Minister Mir Shah Alam has said, adding that necessary measures have been taken.
Dhaka North City Corporation conducted a cleanliness drive under the metro station after removing the 'market' on Wednesday afternoon, May 27.
Speaking during an inspection of the clean-up, the state minister said the area under the Diabari metro station was not leased out by DNCC. Due to continuous heavy rainfall over the past few days, some animal owners took shelter there for two days.
"City corporation officials and the administrator visited both days. With the help of magistrates, the animals were removed. The lessee has also been fined. The waste from the animals is being removed," he said.
The sacrificial animal market in Diabari, Uttara, had seen a huge influx of animals this year. Sellers had tied animals on the main road and under the metro station, exceeding designated boundaries, causing severe traffic congestion and disrupting public movement.
The administration had conducted a drive on Tuesday to remove animals illegally tied on the road under the metro station and warned the market lessee.
DNCC Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan said the administration will remain vigilant to prevent such incidents in the future.
