Sagar–Runi murder case: deadline for probe report extended for the 124th time
The deadline for submitting the investigation report in the murder case of journalist couple Sagar Sarwar and Meherun Runi has been extended once again—this time for the 124th time. The court has set 1 April as the new date for submission of the report.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam passed the order on Monday after the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) failed to submit the report on the scheduled date.
Police Sub-Inspector Rafiqul Islam Russell confirmed the information on behalf of the prosecution.
Sagar Sarwar, news editor of Maasranga Television, and Meherun Runi, senior reporter of ATN Bangla, were murdered at their rented apartment in West Rajabazar in the capital on 11 February 2012. Following the incident, Runi’s brother, Nausher Alam Roman, filed a murder case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.
