The submission of the investigation report in the high-profile murder case of journalist couple Sagar Sarwar and Meherun Runi has been deferred once again. The Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court has now set a new date for September 14.

This marks the 120th time the investigation report has been delayed in the nearly 11-year-old case. On Monday (August 11), Metropolitan Magistrate Minhajur Rahman adjourned the case after the investigating agency failed to submit the report, scheduling the next hearing for mid-September.

Sagar and Runi were brutally murdered on February 11, 2012, in their rented home in West Rajabazar, Dhaka. At the time of the killing, their four-and-a-half-year-old son Mahir Sarwar Megh was at home. Sagar was a journalist at the private TV channel Masranga, while Runi worked for ATN Bangla. Runi’s brother, Nowshar Alam, filed the murder case at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station.

The accused in the case include Rafiqul Islam, Bakul Mia, Masum Mintu, Kamrul Islam alias Arun, Abu Saeed, two security guards from the couple’s residence—Palash Rudra Pal and Enayet Ahmed—and their associate Tanvir Rahman Khan. Tanvir and Palash are currently out on bail, while the rest remain in custody.
