The submission of the investigation report in the murder case of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi has been deferred for the 121st time. The new date for submission has been fixed for November 30.

Although Sunday (September 14) was set for the report submission, the investigation officer, ASP Md Azizul Haque of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), failed to do so. Upon his request, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Minhajur Rahman rescheduled the date, while also expressing dissatisfaction over the investigation.

In the much-discussed case, a total of eight people have been accused, including Runi’s friend Tanvir Rahman. The other accused are security guard Enam Ahmed alias Humayun Kabir, Rafiqul Islam, Bakul Mia, Mintu alias Bargira Mintu alias Masum Mintu, Kamrul Hasan Arun, Palash Rudra Pal, and Abu Saeed. All the accused were taken into remand multiple times, but none gave confessional statements.

On the night of February 11, 2012, Sagar Sarowar, news editor at Maasranga Television, and his wife Meherun Runi, senior reporter at ATN Bangla, were brutally murdered at their rented flat in West Rajabazar, Dhaka. Their bloodied bodies were recovered early the next morning. Runi’s brother, Nawsher Alam Roman, later filed the murder case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.
