Saiful Islam elected new president of BMDC

The Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC), the regulatory body for doctors, has been reconstructed by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Saiful Islam, former professor of pediatric surgery of Bangabandhu Medical University, has been elected as the new president of the council.

On October 20, a notification was issued informing about the reconstruction of BMDC. In the first meeting of the reconstituted BMDC Council on Wednesday, Prof. Saiful Islam was elected as the president as per the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council Act, 2010 when the members of the council elected vice-president and treasurer and formed various committees.

Mohammad Shahadat Hossain, senior information officer of the Ministry of Health, said that the notification regarding the new president and committee will be issued soon.

After the formation of the committee, the members of the BMDC Council met in a meeting with Health Adviser Noorjahan Begum at the Ministry of Health.

At the occasion, Health Adviser Noorjahan Begum told the council members that BMDC should take steps to speed up the settlement of complaints about receiving medical services so that both patients and doctors do not suffer from delays in getting justice.

Besides, the Health Adviser urged the members of the BMDC to take necessary measures to ensure that the people receive quality medical services by maintaining the quality of undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.

In the meeting, the Secretary of Health Education and Family Welfare Department of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Md. Sarwar Bari, Director General (Acting) of the Department of Health, Prof. Dr. Md. Abu Zafar, BSMMU Vice-Chancellor Saidur Rahman along with Health Ministry officials and members of the reconstituted council were present.
