Salman Shah death case hearing deferred to Oct 13
The court has rescheduled the hearing on the revision petition filed by the mother of popular film actor Mohammad Shahriar Emon, known as Salman Shah, in connection with his death case. The hearing has been deferred to October 13.
On Tuesday, September 23, Dhaka’s Sixth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Jannatul Ferdous Ibn Haque set the new date following a time petition by the plaintiff’s lawyer.
Although Salman Shah’s mother could not be present, his maternal uncle Alamgir Kumkum attended the hearing. On behalf of the complainant, lawyer Md Abid Hossain submitted the petition seeking more time. Lawyer Mohammad Habibur Rahman appeared for the state.
On September 6, 1996, actor Salman Shah died under mysterious circumstances. His body was recovered from his residence in Eskaton, Dhaka. Initially, his late father, Komoruddin Ahmed Chowdhury, filed an unnatural death case. Later, on July 24, 1997, he applied to transform the case into a murder case, alleging that his son had been killed. The court instructed the CID to investigate both the unnatural death case and the murder allegation together. On November 3, 1997, the CID submitted its final report to the court, which concluded that Salman Shah’s death was a suicide. When the report was accepted on November 25 by the Dhaka CMM Court, his father filed a revision petition in protest. On May 19, 2003, the court ordered a judicial inquiry into the case. After 11 years, on August 3, 2014, Metropolitan Magistrate Imdadul Haque submitted the judicial inquiry report, which also stated that Salman Shah’s death was an unnatural death or suicide.
Following the death of Komoruddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Salman Shah’s mother, Neela Chowdhury, was included as the plaintiff in the murder case. On February 10, 2015, she filed a petition rejecting the judicial inquiry report. Later, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) conducted a probe under court order and submitted a similar report. On October 31, 2021, the court accepted that report and disposed of the case. On June 12, 2022, Salman Shah’s mother, Neela Chowdhury, filed a revision petition with the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court against that order.
