Saraswati Puja, one of the major religious festivals of the Hindu community, is being celebrated across the country today with due religious fervour and traditional celebrations.

The puja, also known as Bosonto Panchami, is held on the fifth day of the bright fortnight of Magh, in accordance with Hindu scriptures. Goddess Saraswati is revered as the deity of knowledge, wisdom, learning and the arts.

On the occasion, Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus conveyed greetings to members of the Hindu community. In a message, he said Bangladesh stands as a symbol of communal harmony, where people of all religions live together peacefully. He emphasized that the true spirit of Saraswati Puja lies in using knowledge and education for the welfare of society.

Temples, educational institutions and puja mandaps across the country are hosting pushpanjali, prasad distribution, religious discussions and cultural programmes, with students playing a central role in the celebrations.

At Dhaka University, Saraswati Puja is being observed at 76 mandaps, including the central puja at Jagannath Hall. Students from 74 departments and institutes are participating in the two-day programme, which includes cultural events and a blood donation drive.

Security measures have been tightened at major venues, including CCTV surveillance, metal detectors at entry points, and restrictions on firecrackers.

In Dhaka, Saraswati Puja is also being observed at prominent locations such as Ramkrishna Math and Mission, Siddheshwari Temple, Shankharibazar, Tantibazar and Ramna Kali Mandir, where religious and cultural programmes are underway.
