Sarjis slams documentary on July uprising, questions PM's role

Sarjis Alam, chief organiser of the National Citizen Party (NCP) for the northern region, has posed a question to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on social media, following a documentary screened on the July mass uprising.

In a post on his verified Facebook page on Wednesday, August 5, he wrote, "Mr Tarique Rahman, how does it feel to be the proclaimer of the one-point demand?" He did not provide any explanation regarding the comment in the post.

In an earlier post, Sarjis Alam claimed that the documentary on the July mass uprising, screened at an event organised by the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in the capital, did not highlight the 'one-point demand' announced on August 3, the role of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, and other important aspects of the movement.

He said the documentary gave the impression that there was no mass uprising in July; rather, it appeared to be a party-led uprising.

Sarjis Alam also alleged that the tendency to present history from a partisan perspective, which was previously seen in the Awami League, is now being followed by BNP.

He wrote in the post that merely expressing regret by the Liberation War Affairs Minister cannot absolve one from the allegations of such partisan representation and distortion of history.

It may be mentioned that after a documentary was screened at the state event marking the July Mass Uprising Day at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre on Wednesday, a section of those present protested, alleging that several important events and individuals of the July movement were omitted. Later, Sarjis Alam reacted to the matter on social media.
