Sarowar Alam appointed as new DC of Sylhet

The government has appointed Md. Sarowar Alam as the new Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Magistrate of Sylhet.

A notification was issued on Monday by the Ministry of Public Administration, confirming the appointment. The order, issued from the Ministry’s Field Administration-2 branch, states that Sarowar Alam, a BCS (Administration) cadre officer, has been transferred and posted to the Sylhet district in the role of Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate.

Sarowar Alam is widely recognized for his proactive role in leading mobile court drives against corruption and adulteration, as well as for his committed public service. His efforts in ensuring law enforcement and maintaining public safety have earned him national attention.

The notification further mentions that the order has been issued in the public interest and will take immediate effect.

Currently serving as a Senior Assistant Secretary at the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, Sarowar Alam brings a wealth of experience to his new post.

Born and raised in Pakundia, Kishoreganj, his academic journey began at Ismail Memorial Government Primary School in 1983. He completed his SSC in 1993 from Pakundia Pilot High School (now Government High School) with first division and later enrolled at Gurudayal Government College, Kishoreganj.

In 1995, he passed the HSC with first division and went on to study Zoology at the University of Dhaka, where he earned his Master’s degree with first class in 2005. He joined the civil service in 2008 after passing the 27th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examination.

Sarowar Alam married Sanjida Sharmin Linda from Chattogram in 2009. The couple has four daughters: Mahrin Samara, Nazifa Safrin, Tanha, and Manha.
