Satkhira Awami League general secretary Nazrul Islam arrested

Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) have arrested the general secretary of the now-proscribed Awami League's Satkhira district unit and former chairman of the district council, Md Nazrul Islam. He is also a former member of parliament from the Satkhira-1 constituency.

He was arrested around 12pm on Monday (July 27) from his residence in the capital's Bashundhara Residential Area. DB Additional Police Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam confirmed the matter.

According to DB sources, he was detained during an operation based on secret intelligence. He was later taken to the DB office for questioning.

Additional Police Commissioner Shafiqul Islam said Nazrul Islam has multiple cases against him, and he has been shown as arrested based on these cases. However, police did not provide immediate details about which specific cases he has been arrested in connection with.

He further said legal proceedings against him are ongoing following the arrest.
