A Dhaka court has ordered the freezing of two savings certificates belonging to Lutful Tahmina Khan, wife of former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, in connection with a case over alleged illicit wealth accumulation.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order on Thursday (March 5), following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

According to the ACC, the frozen savings certificates involve a total investment of approximately Tk 20 lakh.

The petition was submitted by ACC Deputy Director and investigation officer Muhammad Zainul Abedin. The anti-graft body alleged that Tahmina Khan accumulated assets worth Tk 15,46,94,591 beyond known sources of income.

The investigation further claimed that Kamal, while serving as home minister, abused his position to assist his wife in conducting suspicious financial transactions amounting to Tk 43,77,00,745 through multiple bank accounts in her name and in entities partially owned by them, constituting offences under the Money Laundering Prevention Act.

ACC officials told the court there was credible information suggesting attempts to transfer or conceal the alleged illicit assets. The freezing order was sought to ensure the property can be confiscated in favour of the state if the allegations are proven in court.
