School uniforms within 3 months, midday meals for all students this year: Minister
Education Minister A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon has announced that school uniforms will be arranged within the next three months and midday meals will be introduced for all primary students by the end of this year.
He made the remarks during the inauguration of a primary school Gold Cup football tournament on Thursday (June 4).
The minister said that dropout rates among students had increased during the previous government’s tenure, adding that the current administration is prioritising children’s education.
“Our plan is to ensure that no school remains without meals and no school is without basic facilities like desks,” he said.
He further added that no student should have to attend school without uniforms, as the government aims to create a more comfortable learning environment.
“We do not want children carrying heavy bags of books to school. We want them to learn through play, joy and competition, building the future of Bangladesh,” he said.
The minister also said that sports will be integrated into the national education curriculum to make learning more engaging.
Officials present at the event included Primary and Mass Education State Minister Bobby Hajjaj and education advisor Mahdi Amin, who emphasized the government’s plan to create a flexible education system allowing students to develop according to their interests.
