Schools, colleges to remain closed for 16 days, madrasas for 21 days from May 24

Schools and colleges across the country will remain closed for 16 consecutive days for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha and summer vacation, while madrasas will be closed for 21 days.

According to the academic calendar for 2026, the summer and Eid-ul-Azha vacation for primary, lower secondary and secondary level institutions will begin on Sunday, May 24, and end on Thursday, June 4. Including the weekends before and after, students will enjoy a total of 16 days of continuous holiday.

At the college level, there is no separate summer vacation, but a 12-day holiday has been declared for Eid-ul-Azha. Including the weekends, the total holiday period for colleges will be approximately 16 days.

Madrasas will enjoy a longer break. The combined summer and Eid-ul-Azha vacation will effectively run from May 24 to June 11, making a total of approximately 21 days including weekends.

Earlier on Thursday, May 7, a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman decided on a seven-day government holiday from May 25 to May 31. Government offices will remain open on May 23 and May 24.
