Second day of 13th National Parliament session begins
The second day of the first session of the 13th National Parliament of Bangladesh commenced at 11:00am on Sunday (March 15).
Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed (Bir Bikrom) chaired in the parliament chamber.
The session is scheduled to continue until April 30.
The decision was taken during the first meeting of the parliamentary advisory committee on Saturday (March 14).
A total of 50 hours of discussion has been allocated on the president’s speech delivered at the start of the session, with debates on the motion of thanks beginning from Sunday.
The first session of the 13th Parliament had initially started on Thursday, March 12, but proceedings were adjourned until Sunday.
The advisory committee also decided that, excluding government holidays, the session will be held daily at 3:00pm until April 30.
A total of 468 questions have been submitted for the session, including 8 for the Prime Minister and 460 for other ministers. Additionally, 27 notices have been received under Rule 71 to draw attention, and 97 notices under Rule 131 for resolutions and motions.
Earlier, at the start of the first session, elections for Speaker and Deputy Speaker were held, presided over by Dr. Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain. Prime Minister and Leader of the House Tarique Rahman proposed Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed as Speaker, which was approved by voice vote.
Barrister Kaiser Kamal was elected Deputy Speaker and both were administered the oath of office by President Md. Sahabuddin.
