Security measures in place for MP candidates: DMP Commissioner

In the wake of the brazen attack on Dhaka-8 parliamentary candidate and Inqilab Mancha Spokesperson Osman Hadi, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has stepped up security measures for all election candidates, DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjad Ali confirmed on Saturday (December 13).

Speaking to journalists after the annual meeting of the Retired Police Officers Welfare Association at Rajarbagh Police Lines Auditorium, the commissioner emphasized that candidate safety is a top priority. “We are taking every possible measure to ensure the security of candidates during this election period,” he said.

Regarding the Hadi attack, he revealed, “We are actively tracking the crime target. Less than 24 hours have passed, but we are confident of identifying the perpetrators soon. One individual has already been preliminarily identified, and steps are underway to bring them to justice.”

On the wider network behind the attack, the commissioner stated, “It is too early to determine how many are involved. Names are not being disclosed at this stage, and public cooperation has been requested to aid the investigation.”
