Security stepped up across country ahead of August 5

The government has directed security agencies to remain vigilant ahead of August 5 to ensure public safety and maintain law and order across the country, said Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed. He said, "All necessary measures have been taken to ensure a peaceful and safe environment across the country ahead of August 5."

The Home Minister made these remarks while speaking to journalists at the Home Ministry at the Secretariat on Monday, August 3.

He said the enhanced security measures have been taken as part of regular precautionary steps, considering the significance of the day and the prevailing security situation.

Salahuddin Ahmed said the Home Ministry, police and other security agencies have been given specific directives to strengthen vigilance and remain fully prepared to handle any untoward situation.

As part of the directives, police vehicles have been advised not to remain unattended, and security personnel have been instructed to maintain round-the-clock vigilance to ensure uninterrupted surveillance and quick response capabilities.

The minister said a high-level coordination meeting involving the government, law enforcement agencies and relevant stakeholders would be held to review the overall security situation and finalise necessary measures for August 5.

Referring to the recent recovery of bomb-like objects in Motijheel and Ashulia, he said these incidents were attempts to create panic and disrupt social harmony.

He further said a coordinated investigation was underway to identify those responsible and determine whether there were any connections between the incidents.

Salahuddin Ahmed said intelligence and law enforcement agencies are closely monitoring the activities of banned organisations and certain groups operating from abroad.

The Home Minister said more details would be made public once the investigation is completed.
