Selina Hayat Ivy released on bail
After being in prison for almost 13 months, former Narayanganj City Corporation mayor Selina Hayat Ivy has finally been released on bail.
She was set free from Kashimpur Women's Central Jail in Gazipur at 10:15 pm on Wednesday. Her lawyers and relatives were present at the prison gate at the time.
Shirina Akhter, the jailer of Kashimpur Women's Central Jail, confirmed the matter.
According to prison authorities, her bail order paper had already reached the prison. But she could not be released immediately due to lack of permission from higher authorities.
After her release, she left the prison and left for Narayanganj.
Selina Hayat Ivy was arrested from her home (Chunka Kutir) in Deobhog area of Narayanganj in the early hours of May 9, 2025. Although she was granted bail several times in various cases, she was shown arrested in new cases.
Earlier, on May 9, last year, the police arrested Ivy from her home in Deobhog, Narayanganj city. Later, she was shown arrested in three murder cases and two attempted murder cases during the anti-discrimination student-public movement.
Selina Hayat Ivy was granted bail from the High Court on November 9 in a total of five cases. The state filed five separate appeals against this bail in the Appellate Division. The Chamber Court stayed the bail granted by the High Court on November 12 and sent the state's applications to the regular bench of the Appellate Division for hearing. On May 10, the Supreme Court upheld Ivy's bail by dismissing five separate leave to appeals filed by the state against the bail.
Selina Hayat Ivy was the mayor of Narayanganj Municipality from 2003 to 2011. Later, she won three consecutive elections to the newly formed Narayanganj City Corporation.
