Senior assistant secretary jailed for fraud, showed uncle as father for freedom fighter quota
A senior assistant secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration has been sent to jail by a court in a corruption case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The case accuses him of fraudulently entering the BCS cadre under the freedom fighter quota by showing his uncle as his father.
On Wednesday, January 28, Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Foyez cancelled his bail and ordered him to be sent to prison.
ACC prosecutor Delowar Jahan Rumi confirmed the matter. He stated that the accused, Md Kamal Hossain, had secured advance bail for four weeks from the High Court on December 15 last year.
He surrendered before the judicial court on December 23 and applied for bail. The court granted him bail that day until the DNA test, on condition of cooperation with the investigating officer, and scheduled the next bail hearing pending the DNA report.
However, as the accused failed to fulfil the bail conditions twice, the ACC petitioned for bail cancellation. After a hearing, the court rejected bail and ordered him to be sent to jail.
Earlier, on December 26, ACC assistant director Md Manjurul Islam Mintu filed the case as the plaintiff.
The case alleges that the accused, with the intent to gain admission to university and secure a job under the freedom fighter quota and other benefits, participated in the 35th BCS exam by fraudulently showing his uncle, Bir Muktijoddha Md Ahsan Habib, and aunt, Mrs Sanowara Khatun, as his parents instead of his actual biological parents, Md Abul Kashem and Mrs Habbia Khatun. He subsequently joined the administration cadre. The case was filed under sections 420/467/468/471 of the Penal Code for fraud and forgery.
The case further states that Md Kamal Hossain used his biological father's name, Md Abul Kashem, during his studies up to the eighth grade at Sirajnagar Government Primary School and Philipnagar Secondary School in Daulatpur, Kushtia.
Later, while registering for the ninth grade at the same school, he registered his uncle, freedom fighter Md Ahsan Habib, and aunt, Mrs Sanowara Khatun, as his father and mother.
