Separate coaches have been reserved for women passengers in the intercity trains Sonar Bangla and Jayantika Express, said Road, Railway and Shipping Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam. He also said that this facility will be maintained for women in every intercity train even after Eid.

The minister said this at the inauguration of a program to provide 25% discount on fares for elderly and disabled passengers aged 65 and above and disabled passengers at the capital's Farmgate Metro Station on Monday (May 25) afternoon.

The Railway Minister said, 'During the Eid journey, women passengers face various problems due to excessive crowding. Considering this, the Prime Minister called late on Sunday night and ordered to reserve a coach for women in intercity trains.'

He also said, 'The government had announced that a 25% discount on fares for elderly and disabled passengers in Metro Rail and Bangladesh Railway intercity trains will be implemented before Eid-ul-Azha. It has been officially launched from today, Monday.

Regarding the exemption for students, the minister said, "We have plans to introduce the same facility for students as well. However, the process of merging and verifying the identity cards of various educational institutions has not been finalized yet. Therefore, it will take some more time to implement the exemption for students. A decision on this matter will be taken after Eid."
