Separate secretariat for judiciary to be formed: Law Adviser
Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul has said that a separate secretariat for the judiciary will be established during the tenure of the interim government.
Speaking at a program organized by the Office of the Attorney General at the Supreme Court Auditorium on Tuesday, Dr. Nazrul said that the initiative is part of a series of ongoing legal reforms aimed at improving judicial efficiency and transparency.
He also revealed that, starting Wednesday, bail bonds will be processed online to reduce post-bail harassment and eliminate unnecessary delays. “Currently, after obtaining bail from the court, an accused person has to go through 12 different steps — some involving payments — before release. To end this complexity and harassment, we are introducing an online bail bond system. Once bail is granted, the bail bond will be sent directly to the relevant prison with a single click,” he said.
Dr. Nazrul added that several key legislative initiatives — including the Separate Judicial Secretariat Act, the Enforced Disappearance Act, the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, and the Human Rights Act — will be finalized within the next few weeks.
He noted that the new online bail system will initially be launched as a pilot project. “With one click, the bail bond will go directly from the court’s decision to the jail where the accused is held. This has been developed entirely with government funds, without any external assistance,” he said.
Highlighting the government’s financial capacity, Dr. Nazrul said, “Our government has sufficient resources. For example, the Expatriate Welfare Bank holds Tk 1,600 crore, and the Registrar’s Office has Tk 1,500 crore. We can carry out meaningful reforms using our own funds.”
The event was presided over by Attorney General Mohammad Asaduzzaman. Additional Attorney General Arshadur Rauf and Barrister Anik R. Haque also spoke on the occasion.
