In alignment with Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries, communities in several Bangladeshi districts observed Eid al-Fitr today (March 20).

In Chattogram, over 100 villages in Satkania and Patiya upazilas marked the day, following the moon sighting used by followers of Mirzakheel Darbar Sharif, a tradition maintained for nearly 250 years.

Northern districts including Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, Rangpur, Nilphamari, and Gaibandha also celebrated Eid in around 76 villages based on the Middle Eastern lunar calendar.

In Chandpur, Hajiganj’s Sadra Darbar Sharif hosted the main congregational prayers, while in Munshiganj and Jhenaidah, Eid prayers were held in 15 and 3 villages respectively.

Some areas faced brief rain, but prayers continued once conditions improved.

Residents emphasised adherence to the Middle Eastern moon sighting for religious observance.

Authorities reported that Eid celebrations across these areas proceeded peacefully.
