The moon of the holy month of Shaban was not sighted in the sky over Bangladesh. As a result, the month of Rajab will complete 30 days, and the month of Shaban will begin from Wednesday (January 21).

Accordingly, the holy night of Shab-e-Barat will be observed on the night of Tuesday (February 3).

The decision was announced on Monday (January 19) evening after a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee, held after Maghrib prayers and chaired by Religious Affairs Ministry Secretary Md. Kamal Uddin.

After the meeting, it was stated that the decision was taken after reviewing reports received from district administrations, the headquarters and field offices of the Islamic Foundation, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, and the Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization (SPARRSO) regarding the sighting of the Shaban moon of 1447 Hijri.

The meeting was attended by Islamic Foundation Director General A. Salam Khan, along with representatives from the Cabinet Division, Chief Information Office, Waqf Administration, Dhaka Alia Madrasa, Islamic Foundation Board of Governors, Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Meteorological Department, SPARRSO, and various educational institutions and religious organizations.

It may be noted that Shab-e-Barat is observed on the night of the 15th of Shaban (14th Shaban after sunset). After the end of Shaban, the holy month of Ramadan, the month of fasting for Muslims, will begin.
