Shadik Kayem, Vice President of Dhaka University Central Students' Union, has stepped down from his position as International Affairs Secretary of Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir.

He announced his departure in a Facebook post on Monday afternoon, July 13.

According to multiple sources, Kayem is set to contest the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayoral election as a candidate of Jamaat-e-Islami, prompting his resignation from Shibir.

In his Facebook post, he wrote, "Before I knew it, a long golden chapter has come to an end. As part of the organisation's normal process, my formal leave from Islami Chhatrashibir has become effective today. I am offering countless thanks to Allah for everything. The most beautiful and productive times of my life were spent with this caravan."

He also prayed for the organisation's activists.

About two months ago, Jamaat-e-Islami announced Shadik Kayem's name as its candidate for the Dhaka South City Corporation mayoral election. The announcement was made on May 1 at a conference of thana and divisional-level leaders held at the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) in Kakrail, Dhaka. Following this, Shibir made it clear that members cannot contest elections while holding a Shibir post.

Shadik Kayem is currently serving as Vice President of Dhaka University Central Students' Union. He played a significant role in the student-public uprising and was responsible for coordination at the field level. He began his education at Baitush Sharaf Jabbaria Adarsha Madrasa in Khagrachhari, where he passed Dakhil in 2014, and later completed Alim in 2016 from Baitush Sharaf Adarsha Kamil Madrasa. He then enrolled in the Department of Political Science at Dhaka University, completing both undergraduate and master's degrees.
