Shadik pledges to build ‘dream campus’, Farhad urges accountability from students
Newly elected Vice President (VP) of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU), Shadik Kayem, has pledged to work toward building a “dream campus” with the cooperation of all student groups, regardless of political affiliation.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday morning at the university’s Senate Building, Shadik emphasized unity and collective responsibility in serving the student body.
“No matter what opinions we hold, we will work together,” he said. “The students’ expectations are our expectations. We aim to build a campus that reflects their dreams.”
He acknowledged that all candidates who participated in the election would continue to play important advisory roles for the new leadership.
“Everyone who ran in the election is an advisor now,” Shadik added. “They will provide us with valuable guidance.”
Shadik also stated that Dhaka University remains central to shaping the nation’s future, adding that what he described as the "July Revolution" has begun from the university campus.
He expressed condolences to the family of the journalist who passed away while on duty during the election and extended gratitude to all media professionals who covered the voting process.
Meanwhile, newly elected General Secretary (GS) and student leader from Islami Chhatra Shibir, SM Farhad, also addressed the media in a separate press briefing.
“From my perspective, this is not a personal victory,” said Farhad. “This is a win for all the students of Dhaka University. There’s no room to see this as a triumph for me alone.”
He stressed the importance of accountability and invited students to play an active role in monitoring the actions of the new leadership.
“The trust of the students has been placed in us,” he said. “If we make mistakes during our term, I hope students will correct us.”
The DUCSU elections, a major event in the university’s political calendar, concluded on Tuesday with high voter turnout and active participation from various student organizations.
