Shahidul Islam, Saikat Habib, Abdus Sattar Khan receive Shikshalok Award-2026

Renowned educationist Shahidul Islam, poet and essayist Saikat Habib, and President of the Sammilita Pathagar Andolon (Combined Library Movement) Abdus Sattar Khan have received the 'Shikshalok Award-2026' in recognition of their special contributions to education, literature, and library organization.

The award was handed over to them at the 8th Shikshalok Writers-Artists Gathering held in the capital's Shyamoli on Friday. Shikshalok is an education-related quarterly bulletin of CDIP (Center for Development Innovation and Practices), a non-governmental development organization.

Professor Abul Kashem Fazlul Haq, President of Bangla Academy, attended the event as the chief guest, which was organized on the occasion of the 12th anniversary of Shikshalok. Fiction writer Ahmad Bashir was present as a special guest.

Speaking at the function, Professor Abul Kasem Fazlul Haq said that the current education system, introduced during the British period, must be changed gradually. A change in this system is not possible overnight. He also urged the government and policymakers to take appropriate initiatives to make education world-class.

After receiving the award, Professor Shahidul Islam said he was delighted to receive this recognition from Shikshalok because there is sincere love within this initiative. Poet Saikat Habib and library organizer Abdus Sattar Khan also welcomed this initiative of Shikshalok.

Earlier in the morning, during the 'Shikshalok Lecture' discussion titled 'Child's Right to Education: Policy, Educational Administration, and Guardianship,' Khan Md. Rabiul Alam, a part-time teacher at ULAB, said that community participation is decreasing and bureaucratic control is increasing in the current education system. As a result, it is having a negative impact on the quality of education.

The event was presided over by Shikshalok Editor Fazlul Bari and moderated by Executive Editor Alamgir Khan.

Mifta Naim Huda, Chief Editor of Shikshalok and Executive Director of CDIP, said that such initiatives of Shikshalok to develop education and increase awareness will continue in the future.
